Sustainability

We are proud of the programs which support our commitment to this community and to the environment. Our GREEN initiatives include:

  • Being a partner of the Always Consider Tomorrow (ACT) program . ACT is a Cushman & Wakefield national sustainability initiative carried out by several shopping centres across Canada.
  • Using an energy management controlled system for lighting, heating and air conditioning throughout the building.
  • Using eco-friendly light bulbs.
  • Collecting and recycling cardboard, glass, metal, plastic, paper, batteries, toners, fluorescent tubes and other materials.
  • Collecting and recycling gift cards and other plastic based cards which are diverted and repurposed by creating other products.
  • Offering water bottle refill stations to mall patrons and employees, which minimizes plastic bottle waste. Fill stations are located at the washroom entrances on both the main and upper levels.
  • Equipping washrooms with energy efficient hand-dryers, touch-free faucets, and low flow toilets to conserve water.
  • Using eco-friendly cleaning supplies.
  • Maintaining pesticide-free landscaping.
  • Using a weather-based smart controlled irrigation system which saves up to 50% water consumption by responding to weather changes in real-time.
  • Implementing an organic composting program in the Midtown Common Food Court to divert food waste from landfills and support environmentally responsible waste management practices.

Midtown believes that committing to improve both our immediate environment and to our community is essential to reducing our overall footprint.
