Journey Under The Ice with explorer Mario Cyr

This unique immersive exhibition comes to Saskatoon this April

The stunning exhibition, Arctic – A Man Under The Ice is coming to Saskatoon for a limited time on first stop in Western Canada. Since opening its doors in Montreal last summer, this unique and entertaining exhibit has already sold more than one hundred thousand tickets in a few short months and has earned rave reviews.

Opening in Saskatoon at Midtown on April 21, 2022, Arctic – A Man Under The Ice will invite adventurers of all ages to explore the world of the Canadian Arctic and observe it through the lens of world-renowned diver, filmmaker and photographer Mario Cyr. Visitors walking through this large, immersive exhibition will get to experience the feeling of being on the actual expedition and under the ice to examine the underwater world in a way few people ever will.

Walk into the life-sized base camp and join the expedition as the explorer meets his invaluable Inuit guides. Allow yourself to be transported through Mario Cyr’s lens of over three hundred images taken during his twelve thousand dives revealing a spectacular mosaic of northern lights, polar bears, walruses and diverse aquatic life. Discover the Floe Edge; the mysterious intersection of ice and sea that teems with a myriad of life. The Iceberg Garden is a complete immersion and transcendent dance of larger-than-life images, accompanied by whale song and the music of composer Jean-Michel Blais. The Cave features four fascinating immersive experiences that transport the audience to new worlds rarely seen, providing glimpses into the unknown. The exhibition culminates with an awe-inspiring voyage: a virtual dive with Mario Cyr within in a 360-degree projection space, demonstrating the vast richness and wonder of what lies beneath the ocean’s icy surface.

Arctic – A Man Under The Ice with Mario Cyr was designed and produced by Éloize Expo’s Lilli Marcotte and Benoit Landry and based on an original idea by Jeannot Painchaud. The exhibit is officially supported and endorsed by The Ocean Decade, a global UNESCO program that seeks to stimulate ocean science and knowledge generation to reverse the decline of the state of the ocean system, and catalyze new opportunities for sustainable development of this massive marine ecosystem.

ABOUT MARK CYR

Mario Cyr is internationally renowned in film industry for his work on wildlife films and documentaries and is one of the world’s greatest marine explorers. He has worked as an underwater filmmaker on over one hundred and fifty productions for clients including Disney Productions, Imax 3D, the BBC, NHK, TV Tokyo, The Explorers, France 2, David Suzuki, National Geographic and the Cousteau Society. He is part of an extremely select group who have filmed under ice. Most of his many missions have been in cold climates, including the Arctic and Antarctic, which has allowed him to gain a deep understanding of polar environments and bear witness to the massive changes affecting them today.
